NHS: How much does it spend on the private sector? Health and Social Care Secretary Jeremy Hunt has written to private health companies following a report by the regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC). It found that while most private hospitals in England provided high quality care there were still 30% requiring improvement.
The CQC made the point that the independent health sector was important not just for privately funded patients or those with insurance but also many in the NHS because of contracts held with health service commissioners and trusts. BBC News
