Hospitals pay £500m a year too much for basic supplies with some charging twice as much as others for the same items: The study by Ernst and Young looked at ten NHS trusts and found some hospitals were paying £120 for a box of electric blankets while other paid only £47, while there were discrepancies in forceps and other supplies.
