Student nursing numbers: good news at last?

Student nursing numbers: good news at last? There have been a number of changes to how student nursing courses are funded over the past 10 years, which have impacted on the NHS in different ways. The two main changes were a reduction in the number of places funded by the government in 2011 (this was intended to prevent an oversupply of nurses, but ironically contributed to the shortages we now see), followed by the removal of the nursing bursary in 2017 (a move intended to remove the cap on the total number of nursing placements).
